Verse 9
पुण्यो गन्धः पृथिव्यां च तेजश्चास्मि विभावसौ । जीवनं सर्वभूतेषु तपश्चास्मि तपस्विषु ॥९॥
Hindi Translation
मैं पृथ्वी में पवित्र गन्ध और अग्नि में तेज हूँ तथा सम्पूर्ण भूतों में उनका जीवन हूँ और तपस्वियों में तप हूँ ॥९॥
English Translation
I am the pure odour (the subtle principle of odour) in the earth and the brilliance in fire; nay, I am the life in all beings and the austerity in men of askesis. (7.9)

Verse 10
बीजं मां सर्वभूतानां विद्धि पार्थ सनातनम् | बुद्धिर्बुद्धिमतान्ममस्मि तेजस्तेजस्विनामहम्॥१०॥
Hindi Translation
हे अर्जुन ! तू सम्पूर्ण भूतों का सनातन बीज मुझ को ही जान | मैं बुद्धिमानों की बुद्धि और तेजस्वियों का तेज हूँ || १० ||
English Translation
Arjuna, know Me the eternal seed of all beings. I am the intelligence of the intelligent; the glory of the glorious am I. (10)

Verse 11
बलं बलवत्तां चाहं कामरागविवर्जितम् | धर्माविरुद्धो भूतेषु कामोऽस्मि भरतर्षभ ||११||
Hindi Translation
हे भरतश्रेष्ठ ! मैं बलवानों का आसक्ति और कामनाओं से रहित बल अर्थात् सामर्थ्य हूँ और सब भूतों में धर्म के अनुकूल अर्थात् शास्त्र के अनुकूल काम हूँ || ११ ||
English Translation
O best of the Bharatas, I am the strength of the strong, devoid of desire and passion; and I am the desire in beings, not opposed to dharma. (11)

Verse 12
ये चैव सात्त्विका भाव राजसास्तामसाश्च ये । मत एवेति तान्निन्द्रि न त्वं तेषु ते मयि ॥१२॥
Hindi Translation
और भी जो सत्त्वगुण से उत्पन्न होने वाले भाव हैं और जो रजोगुण से तथा तमोगुण से होने वाले भाव हैं, उन सबको तू 'मुझसे ही होने वाले हैं' ऐसा जान। परंतु वास्तव में उनमें मैं और वे मुझमें नहीं हैं ॥१२॥
English Translation
Whatever other entities there are, born of Sattva (the quality of goodness), and those that are born of Rajas (the principal of activity) and Tamas (the principal of inertia), know them all as evolved from Me alone. In reality, however, neither do I exist in them, nor they in Me.

Verse 13
त्रिभिर्गुणमयेभिरेषिभः सर्वमिदं जगत् । मोहितं नाभिजानाति मामेषः परमव्ययम् ॥१३॥
Hindi Translation
गुणों के कार्यरूप सात्त्विक, राजस और तामस—इन तीनों प्रकार के भावों से यह सब संसार—प्राणी-समुदाय मोहित हो रहा है, इसीलिये इन तीनों गुणों से परे मुझ अविनाशी को नहीं जानता ॥१३॥
English Translation
The whole of this creation is deluded by these objects evolved from the three modes of Prakrti-Sattva, Rajas and Tamas; that is why the world fails to recognize Me, standing apart from these and imperishable.

Verse 14
देवी ह्येषा गुणमयी मम माया दुरत्यया | मामेव ये प्रपद्यन्ते मायामेतां तरन्ति ते ॥१४॥
Hindi Translation
क्योंकि यह अलौकिक अर्थात् अति अद्भुत त्रिगुणमयी मेरी माया बड़ी दुरत्तर है; परंतु जो पुरुष केवल मुझको ही निरन्तर भजते हैं वे इस माया को उल्लंघन कर जाते हैं अर्थात् संसार से तर जाते हैं ॥१४॥
English Translation
This divine energy of Mine, consisting of the three modes of material nature, is difficult to overcome. But those who have surrendered unto Me alone can cross beyond it.

Verse 15
न मां दुष्कृतिनो मूढाः प्रपद्यन्ते नराधमाः | मायापहतज्ञाना आसुरं भावमाश्रिताः || १५ ||
Hindi Translation
माया के द्वारा जिनका ज्ञान हरा जा चुका है ऐसे आसुर-स्वभाव को धारण किये हुए, मनुष्यों में नीच, दूषित कर्म करने वाले मूढ़ लोग मुझको नहीं भजते ॥१५॥
English Translation
Those whose wisdom has been carried away by Maya, and who have embraced the demoniac nature, such foolish and vile men of evil deeds do not adore Me. (15)

Verse 16
चतुर्विधा भजन्ते मां जनाः सुकृतिनोऽर्जुन । आर्तो जिज्ञासुरर्थार्थी ज्ञानी च भरतर्षभ ॥१६॥
Hindi Translation
हे भरतवंशियों में श्रेष्ठ अर्जुन! उत्तम कर्म करने वाले अर्थार्थी, आर्त, जिज्ञासु और ज्ञानी – ऐसे चार प्रकार के भक्तजन मुझको भजते हैं ॥१६॥
English Translation
Four types of devotees of noble deeds worship Me, Arjuna, the seeker after worldly possessions, the afflicted, the seeker for knowledge, and man of wisdom, O best of Bharatas. (7.16)

Verse 17
तेषां ज्ञानी नित्ययुक्त एकभक्तिर्विशिष्यते । प्रियो हि ज्ञानेनोत्पर्थमहं स च मम प्रियः ॥१७॥
Hindi Translation
उनमें नित्य मुझ में एकीभाव से स्थित अनन्य प्रेम भक्ति वाला ज्ञानी भक्त अति उत्तम है, क्योंकि मुझको तत्व से जानने वाले ज्ञानी को मैं अत्यन्त प्रिय हूँ और वह ज्ञानी मुझे अत्यन्त प्रिय है ॥१७॥
English Translation
Of these best is the man of wisdom, ever established in indentity with Me and possessed of exclusive devotion. For I am extremely dear to the wise man (who knows Me in reality), and he is extremely dear to me.

Verse 18
उदारा: सर्व एवैतै ज्ञानी त्वालैव मे मतम्। आस्थित: स हि युक्तात्मा मामेवातु तमां गतिम्॥१८॥
Hindi Translation
ये सभी उदार हैं, परंतु ज्ञानी तो साक्षात् मेरा स्वरूप ही है, ऐसा मेरा मत है, क्योंकि वह मधुरगत मन-बुद्धिवाला ज्ञानी भक्त अति उत्तम गतिस्वरूप मुझ में ही अच्छी प्रकार स्थित है ॥१८॥
English Translation
Indeed all these are noble, but the man of wisdom is My very self: such is My view. For such a devotee, who has his mind and intellect merged in Me, is firmly established in Me alone, the highest goal.

Verse 19
बहूनां जन्मनामन्ते ज्ञानवान्मां प्रपद्यते। वासुदेव: सर्वमिति स महात्मा सुदुर्लभ:॥१९॥
Hindi Translation
बहुत जन्मों के अन्त के जन्म में तत्व ज्ञान को प्राप्त पुरुष, सब कुछ वासुदेव ही है—इस प्रकार मुझ को भजता है, वह महात्मा अत्यन्त दुर्लभ है ॥१९॥
English Translation
In the very last of all births the enlightened soul worships Me, realizing that all this is God. Such a great soul is very rare.

Verse 20
कामैस्तैर्हितज्ञाना: प्रपद्यन्तेऽन्यदेवताः | तं तं नियममास्थाय प्रकृत्या नियताः स्वया || २० ||
Hindi Translation
उन-उन भोगों की कामना द्वारा जिनका ज्ञान हरा जा चुका है, वे लोग अपने स्वभाव से प्रेरित होकर उस-उस नियम को धारण करके अन्य देवताओं को भजते हैं अर्थात पूजते हैं ॥२०॥
English Translation
Those whose wisdom has been carried away by various desires, being prompted by their own nature, worship other deities adopting rules relating to each.
